About this deal
On the plus side, this makes attachment simple – there’s no initial fiddling around with base plates. However, you still need to screw the head into your chosen device, and removing it takes more time.
GorillaPod Starter Kit, Versatile Mini Flexible Tripod JOBY GorillaPod Starter Kit, Versatile Mini Flexible Tripod
There are 2 main factors to consider when choosing a GorillaPod. 1. Maximum Weight of Object(s) to be Supported While the smaller GorillaPods tend to feel a little like well-engineered toys, the 5K Kit feels like a serious piece of gear. From then on, the transition to using the GorillaPod continued as I started to realize how its versatile design was way more useful than I imagined. Before, I would assume a small tripod barely over a foot tall wouldn’t ever be dependable because what if I was in a location that doesn’t have anything to mount it to. What I’ve come to realize is that this scenario happens far less than I thought it would. Yes, the trade-off with the GorillaPod versus a full-sized tripod is precise positioning; I can’t mount my camera five feet away from a fence, but I can mount it on the fence itself. Sometimes that might mean a less “perfect” composition, but honestly sometimes it benefits the composition in ways you didn’t realize when mounting to a fence wasn’t an option, such as introducing great sweeping leading lines to an image.Pro Tip: If in doubt, always go for the GorillaPod rated one higher than your considered max weight capacity. i.e. even if you own a lightweight Sony a6000, I’d still recommend choosing the GorillaPod 1K, just in case you ever attach a heavy lens. 2. Means of Attachment Why? Well because the GorillaPod 5K Kit is the strongest of the lot, and is most likely to be able to provide the securest, most reliable support for any equipment with a 1/4″ tripod mount hole in its base… as long as its combined weight is under 5 kg (6.6 lbs), of course. There’s not much more to say about the GorillaPod 500 – it’s a simple bit of kit that allows you to stabilize or secure your compact camera in places that wouldn’t normally be possible.

However, that’s not to say that the build quality of the GorillaPod 325 isn’t great – it’s just that everything feels that much smaller. Perhaps it’s just my big hands…! That said, the GorillaPod 1K does a fine job in securing devices weighing within its max carrying capacity to thin poles, posts and anything else you can find that fits the bill. For the sake of simplicity, I’ve ignored the Video and SmartPhone models of the GorillaPod, choosing to focus on the models most suited for stills photographers. The legs of the tripod can take a little extra time to get positioned exactly how you want them because of their stiffness. However, would you really want them to be any looser and less grabby? You can also get a separate mount to attach your phone to the GorillaPod, opening up possibilities for other content creators too, not just photographers and videographers.
